Annual Festival of Fine Art

The SLAA holds a juried art show displaying works of art by adult artists and San Leandro students. This juried show is open to the public, and displayed works my be offered for sale. The festival includes artist demonstrations, art activities for children, a silent auction, and the Dorothy Cunningham Art Award Program (DCAAP) raffle.

Dorothy Cunningham Art Award Program

This grant award program is offered to art teachers in the San Leandro School District who compete through written proposal. The program supports a new, or ongoing, art project that is carried out with students in elementary, middle, or high school grades.

Group Field Trips

Interested members are invited to visit galleries to view a variety of exhibits. Field trips are coordinated by one of our members and take place on average of three times per year.

Monthly Meetings

Artist Demonstrations

On the second Tuesday of each month, a celebrated artist is invited to demonstrate the process by which they produce outstanding work. We invite a number of artists, all of whom excel in one or more mediums. All demonstrations are open to the public.

Artist of the Month Competition

Once a month, at the general meeting, members can show their latest work. All other members then votes to select three winners, each of whom receives an award.

Revolving Gallery

Members display their works through a variety of venues, including local businesses, community centers, the San Leandro Library, and the San Leandro School District. Exhiblits are approximently three months long.

Student Art

The SLAA encourages and supports art in the schools by offering the Dorothy Cunningham Art Award Program, (DCAAP). Through this program, grants are awarded to selected art teachers for carrying out extensive art projects with students in the San Leandro School District.

The SLAA also invites students to enter their art work in the Annual Festival of Fine Art. Student work is judged by professional artists and students are eligible to recieve non-monetary prizes.
